Our review of Yu Yu Hakusho live-action

The late 80s and 90s marked the golden age of anime with legendary titles such as Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Pokémon, One Piece and Slam Dunk, among others.

Undoubtedly, these series were a fundamental part of our childhood and, even today, we remember them with a lot of nostalgia. Who could forget the fight in which Gohan defeats Cell?

Since then, the world of anime, especially the shonen genre, has continued to grow, to the point of attracting the interest of streaming giants such as Netflix and Amazon. In 2023, anime fans were pleasantly surprised by the launch of live-action adaptations. And the fact is that, after many setbacks, it seems that Netflix has hit the nail on the head in this type of adaptation. After the success of One Piece, the platform announced the adaptation of the work Yu Yu Hakusho. And the truth is that, what seemed like it was going to pass through the platform without much fanfare, ended up becoming a resounding success.

The Netflix adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a young rebel who, after dying in an attempt to save a child, is given the opportunity to return to life as a spiritual detective. His main mission will be to bring the monsters of the Afterlife back to their place.

Despite the challenges involved in adapting an action-packed anime with a complex plot like Yu Yu Hakusho, Netflix has managed to maintain the essence of the original anime, especially in the combat scenes. And if there's one thing that stands out about the adaptation, it's how well the special effects are executed: attacks with black dragons and carnivorous plants? Yes, Netflix has done it.

The success of these adaptations has encouraged the streaming giants to invest even more in this type of content. Proof of this are announcements such as the live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia and the addition of One Piece to the platform.
